Bericht  Uller za aug 21, 2010 4:16 am

    Session one: 625 XP

    Day 1:
Following several drow raids of unusual savagery, Lord Randall Morn of Daggerdale decided to contact his team of "problem solvers". The raiders had been tracked back to the Dordrien crypts, a burial site for some long-forgotten dynasty rulers and the team was asked to investigate the source of these raids. He agreed to provide the necessary (mundane) supplies and cover up to 5000 gp worth of healing, spells and minor items at the temple of Tyr at Daggerfalls.

The team accepted the assignment and proceeded to Dagger falls on horses from the lord's stables. After requisitioning a wand of curative magic, they went on to the crypts. After short trek past burned and abandoned farms and homesteads, the result of both the recent Zhent occupation and the more recent drow raids, they arrived at a hill. In the shadow of the hill they found two small building and the remains of several others. A door could be seen in a niche cut into the hill side.

Surveying the scene, the team decided to examine the two buildings first. Kheldar went to inspect the door on the smaller of the two buildings. While he found he could not open it, he did find evidence of some sort of movement in the dirt near the door. One of the team member suggested it looked like disturbances made by air currents. Puzzled and intrigued, Immuriel examined the door more closely and found the name "Chahir", a name he remembered as being associated with vampire attacks on Daggerdale around 796 DR. Kheldar and Varillion then decided to attempt to force the door to no avail. Frustrated they set out to examine the other building. The doors there open relatively easily and they find a large room with four doors presumably leading to other rooms.

Meanwhile, Neb figures he'll just bash the door down. About one minute into his work the door crumbles away revealing a room with two stone coffins at the back. Kheldar and Varillion return immediately upon hearing this. Immuriel and Genta enter to examine the coffins, however as soon as they approach them, mist seeps out both coffins. The mist coalesced into three humanoid creatures, Genta identified them as two vampire spawn accompanied by a mysterious third.

In the ensuing fight, both the vampire spawn go down very fast. The third creature, presumed to be a vampire, however, proved a somewhat tougher nut to crack. Concealed by some sort of gelatinous substance and seemingly the ability to partly anticipate attacks, he manages to get off two lighting attacks before being forced into gaseous form. Diero realised they were dealing with a psi-manifester (he identifies the power as "Energy Bolt").
Reduced to gaseous form, the putative vampire retreats to its coffin. Kheldar and Neb proceeded to rain blows on the cover slab, while Genta prepares to channel Lathander's glory to destroy the alleged vampire. By the time the final blow was struck on the coffin lid, Kheldar saw that the hypothetical vampire had reformed and, alas, met his gaze. Kheldar lost the battle of wills and became the vampire's slave. Fury entered his mind, fury directed towards Genta making him deliver a hideous blow to the disciple of Lathander. In turn, that selfsame disciple channelled the power of the rising sun and vanquished the conjectural vampire, confirming at least its undead status.

Despite a thorough search, no treasure was found among the remains of the vanquished foes.

Session two: 3500 XP (1166 XP for Peter and Martijn)

    Day 1 (cont.):
With the (assumed) vampires defeated, the intrepid party searched the larger mausoleum. Beyond the refuse strewn antechamber, they found four identical rooms. Each solely contained a sarcophagus in the centre of the room. Leery of finding more vampires, it was decided to open all sarcophagi, but nothing of note was found.

Emerging from the mausoleum, the party turned its attention on the doors set into the hillside. These doors, however wouldn't open, at least not at first and not very far. Forcing the door, it was found that the handles on the inside of the doors were chained together and it was one of these door handles that broke off during entry. Neb began to destroy the other handle in order to take the locked loop of chain (6 ft, 8 lbs, plus lock, 1 lb).
Peering into the darkness, the group saw bodies lying on the floor in the corridor. The corridor itself stretched on for approximately ninety feet westward before turning south. Near where the bodies were there was a door in the north wall.
Upon closer examination the corpses turned out to be five drow corpses.
Genta looked for the cause of death, which was apparent: three of them had succumbed to bolts consistent with hand crossbows and the remaining two appeared to have perished from blunt force trauma. Remembering the drow proclivity towards using hand crossbows, they soon realised that the likely killers were other drow.
Behind the door was an unfinished and thus unused crypt.

Past the turn the corridor continues for sixty feet southward, ending in a stair down. There were two doors on either side. The door in the east wall was once plastered shut, but since broken open. Following some discussion a portion of the party enters, finding a large room lined with sarcophagi, with one sarcophagus in a central position. Moving inward, however, triggered a glyph which summoned two celestial dire lions, which promptly attacked the intruders. Following a harrowing fight, in which Genta very nearly got to see Lathander in person, the lions were ultimately defeated.
The sarcophagi sparked another discussion, with Neb wanting to open the sarcophagi and Kheldar and Genta arguing against this on ethical grounds. The argument sparked a brief physical confrontation between Genta and Neb. Ultimately Neb opened the stone coffin and found a mouldering skeleton holding a short spear and a wand, around what was left of its neck was a golden torc. Diero was intrigued and searched for evidence of enchanted items. He determined that the spear and the wand were magical. The valuables were taken by Diero and Neb, under protest from Genta and a disapproving glare from Kheldar.
The plastering on the door in the western wall was still intact and left alone by group decision. The fearless band moved down the stairs and entered into a natural cavern with graves hollowed out in the walls. A short tunnel to the west led into a larger cavern also lined with graves. This cavern, however, also contained a very large statue Genta identified as being the deity Jergal, Guardian of tombs and bureaucrat extraordinaire. Moving to leave the cavern, the party was ambushed from the shadows. Strands flew out and hit a large portion of the party sapping strength from its victims. The cleric remained free, thanks to his fire shield and the creature’s aversion to fire. What had appeared to be a part of the cavern wall, was in fact a roper. Diero managed an ineffectual spell before succumbing to the weakness imparted by the strands and Kheldar began to methodically hammer the roper into submission. Neb managed to use his mystical training to get away, eventually. Fleeing into the next cavern he was set upon by creature that appeared to be ghoul, except it proved far more powerful than an ordinary one. Once the roper was taken care of, the remaining party members that were still standing joined the fight with the ghoulish creature attacking Neb. Outnumbered and surrounded, the creature was quickly vanquished, vanishing after the last blow and leaving a faint smell of brimstone.

Session three: 750 XP (312 XP for Peter)

    Day 1 (cont.):
With the party severely weakened (literally) and one member down, the decision to promptly retreat was quickly made. The party made its way back to the horses and rode back to Daggerdale, where they hired rooms in the local inn.

    Day 2:
Those affected by the roper’s weakening touch spent the day recovering under the care of Genta. Feeling sufficiently strengthened, they decided to set out the next morning.

    Day 3:
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, the band of adventurers returned to the Dordrien crypts. The doors in the hill-side were still ajar. Entering the complex, not much appeared to have changed. Neb, in one of his impetuous moments, decided he wanted to know what was behind this door and prepared to bash it down. As soon as his weapon hit the door, he felt a tug at his very life essence, which he managed to resist. After the dust cleared, a room became visible with four more doors and one statue of a regal-looking woman. After some hesitation and Diero not finding any magical auras, aside from the trap Neb triggered, the group started to enter. As they did, however, the statue began to animate and speak in some language not understood by any of the adventurers. Continuing in a language slightly more familiar (it resembled Common), though still unintelligible. The statue did make its displeasure clear, in tone if not in words. Taking the hint, the company surmised their presence was the problem and promptly removed it.
Once more the troupe descended the stairs into the cavernous area below. Creeping past the sites of their encounters with the roper and the ghoul-like creature, the party found itself at a Y-shape intersection, with one arm going east and another going south. Neb scouted the southern corridor and was promptly attacked by a large, hollow spider. The spider’s bite did not carry the usual venom (which would not bother a Duergar), instead it sapped strength. Diero fired a magic missile before it retreated into the cavern that the corridor opened into. Following the spider, Kheldar and Varillion found it was accompanied by two drow, one with a glaive and the other holding a rapier. Kheldar lowered his defences to be able to take advantage of the opening their attacks would create in their own defences and successfully punished an attack from the glaive wielding drow as well as the one with the rapier. The spider came around and snapped at Kheldar, but missed. A sunrise conjured up by the disciple of Lathander finished off the spider and blinded the drow with the rapier, while Kheldar charged the blinded drow. Seeing an opening (not realising its intentionality), the one with the glaive struck Kheldar, who struck back immediately, though it managed to stand its ground. The blinded drow, hit with Kheldar’s charge, fell limply to the ground. Varillion moved towards the remaining foe and prepared to execute a series of attacks, only to find he felled him with the first.
